On 21 January 1991, boys of the former school, Sudarshana Model Primary School, were enrolled at Rahula College. Since then, this has been maintaining as the primary section of Rahula College.

Mrs J. Vengappuli was the first Principal of the school from 02-01-1992 to 08-10-1992 and subsequently K.K. Mr. Dharmadasa (09-10-1992 to 10-01-1996), Mr. J.S.Galapitiya (11-01-1996 to 07-11-2004), G.J.K. Mr Abeykoon (08-11-2004 to 10-04-2012), S.T. Mrs Gunawardena (11-04-2012 to 07-04-2019), Mrs Pathmani Ganewatta (08-04-2019) , is the present Principal from 08 April 2019 up to now. The primary section has 1170 students in five grades (1 to 5) with six classes per grade, and the teaching staff consists of 45 teachers. There are currently two non-academic employees and one minor employee.
